About WineTalent
What is WineTalent?
WineTalent is an executive search and recruiting firm founded in 2004 by Amy Gardner and based in Sacramento, California. It specializes in professional, leadership and executive placement for wineries and wine industry companies throughout the United States, and every search is run personally by Amy.
Who is Amy Gardner?
Amy Gardner is the founder of WineTalent and the recruiter behind every search. She started the firm in 2004 after a decade recruiting in life sciences and technology, and she has spent every year since placing winemakers, viticulturists, sales leaders and executives across the wine industry.
Does WineTalent recruit only in the wine industry?
Yes. WineTalent works exclusively in wine, from winemaking and viticulture to sales, DTC and finance. That focus means each search draws on deep knowledge of the wine market and on a network built only in wine, rather than on a general executive recruiting playbook.
Which wine regions does WineTalent serve?
WineTalent recruits nationwide, with direct outreach into every U.S. wine region. Regions served include Napa Valley, Sonoma County, Lodi, the Central Coast, Paso Robles, Santa Barbara, the Sierra Foothills, Oregon, Washington and New York.
What kinds of wine industry roles does WineTalent fill?
WineTalent fills professional, leadership and executive roles in nine specialties: executive leadership, winemaking and production, viticulture and vineyard operations, sales, marketing, DTC and consumer sales, hospitality, finance and administration, and operations.
02
For employers and clients
How does a wine industry executive search work?
Every search runs through eight steps: initial contact, market mapping, candidate identification, presentation, interview facilitation, compensation and negotiation, onboarding and ongoing support after placement. Amy runs the search personally, so the recruiter you meet on day one is the recruiter who presents your slate and stays involved after the offer.
What is the difference between retained and engaged search?
[Amy to confirm.] In a retained search, WineTalent is engaged exclusively for a defined position and committed to it from the first brief to the accepted offer. An engaged search works a defined role against an agreed scope and timeline. [State exclusivity, fee timing and guarantee terms for each.]
How much does a wine industry executive search cost?
[Amy to confirm: fee structure, when fees are due and what is included.] A first conversation costs nothing and usually takes twenty minutes, so the fastest route to a firm quote is to describe the role and the level of confidentiality required.
How long does an executive search take?
WineTalent recruits nationwide, with direct outreach into every U.S. wine region. Regions served include Napa Valley, Sonoma County, Lodi, the Central Coast, Paso Robles, Santa Barbara, the Sierra Foothills, Oregon, Washington and New York.
How does WineTalent find candidates who are not looking for a job?
WineTalent maps the market and approaches passive candidates directly, then presents a short, qualified slate rather than a stack of résumés. Amy also draws on her professional network and on a candidate database built over more than twenty years of recruiting in wine.
Can WineTalent run a confidential or replacement search?
Yes. Confidential and replacement searches are a regular part of the work. All communications are kept confidential, and a résumé is never shared without the approval of the candidate.
Does WineTalent help with compensation and negotiation?
Yes. WineTalent provides compensation and market benchmarking, and neutral negotiation support for both the employer and the candidate, so that terms are agreed on realistic ground.
What happens if a placement does not work out?
[Amy to confirm guarantee or replacement terms.] WineTalent stays involved after the offer is accepted, because placements are made to last.

For candidates
How does WineTalent work with candidates?
WineTalent represents wine professionals from mid-career through the executive suite. Conversations remain confidential, and your résumé is never shared without your approval.
Does it cost anything to work with WineTalent as a candidate?
[Amy to confirm and state plainly, for example: hiring companies pay WineTalent and candidates pay nothing.]
Can I send my résumé if no position is posted?
Yes. Confidential introductions are welcome, with no mass submittals. Whenever a new position comes up, WineTalent reviews its database of candidates and contacts everyone who may be interested.
What happens after I send my résumé?
Amy reviews your résumé, then speaks with you by phone or in person. When a role fits, you receive detailed company information, references are checked and your candidacy is presented to the client. Interview scheduling, negotiation support and transition assistance follow.
Will my current employer find out that I am talking with a recruiter?
WineTalent keeps every inquiry and interaction private and never shares your résumé without your approval. We handle conversations professionally and in a way that does not affect you or WineTalent’s clients.
