It Is Hard to Land a Job Today — Check Out Pathrise’s Data To Learn More

The employment outlook is pretty dismal today.  Unemployment in many areas and sectors is up, and the wine business is kinda gloomy right now.  The job market has highs and lows, and we are in a low spot.  If you are looking for a job, it can feel particularly difficult to land that next job.  And you’re right.  According to data that Pathrise analyzed it is harder than ever to get a job.

Key findings from their survey:

  • Job seekers took 247 days to land a job
  • It’s harder to find a good job in 2024 than 2023
  • Job seekers sent 221 applications before landing a job
  • Citizens were 2x more likely to get interviews than non-citizens
  • The best time to apply to jobs is Tuesday-Thursday, 6am-3pm PST
  • LinkedIn did not get job seekers hired most, despite its popularity
  • Job seekers who applied to 20+ jobs weekly got more interviews and landed jobs faster
  • It Takes 247 Days to Land a Job
The data also reveals that the average candidate applying to competitive industries, such as tech, may need to submit over 300 applications to secure a good position in 2024.
One of my favorite sayings is “In God we Trust — Everyone Else Bring Data.”  The Pathrise report has data and graphs–and is very interesting.  You can find the entire report here.
Check out the graphs.  They have included best times of the day to submit applications and what day is best to be applying.  Weekends late in the evening was a surprisingly good time to apply for jobs.  Maybe the bots are rested up then?
