Networking is a way of life for an executive recruiter, and I recently spoke to Ella Parlor and learned that she wrote “High Tolerance: The Intoxicating World of Alcohol Marketing”. I was happy to read this book, learn more about Ella and also the world of beverage marketing.
Ella has a snappy and engaging writing style. You get to know her quickly, and her anecdotes are teaching moments. From how to engage with anyone in a sales situation, the importance of customer service on to her unwavering attention to detail she shows us how she’s been successful in CPG marketing, and how we could be too.
In High Tolerance Ella discusses some of the harder aspects of a career centered on alcohol marketing. Slinging tasting samples at packed bars in cities around the country can only have a woman learning very quickly how to keep her wits about her while engaging with customers. She also talks about some of the people in her life who have struggled with alcoholism and poor life choices. She uses these stories to ferret out important lessons she’s learned, and how she is always working to improve herself.
Working in alcohol sales, marketing, production and related roles has many of us close to intoxicating beverages on the regular. Ella outlines how to make smart choices, be true to yourself and also how to transition into new business opportunities.
