I recently wrote about how I gravitate to smaller, more intimate settings in work and in life (Small-town Girl Finds Career Contentment in the Wine Industry). The wine industry has been a very welcoming environment, and one I’ve found great success in. Achievement comes by laying the groundwork, increasing challenges and consistently showing up for clients and job seekers. This is much like training for a race. You need to put in foundational miles, do speed work and climb hills while showing up time and again for your next run. For years I’ve participated in local fun runs, cycling gran fondos and sprint triathlons, even sponsoring Team WineTalent at the annual Women’s Triathlon at Folsom Lake. Getting a group of us together, training, and then competing at this fun event is a highlight of my summer. Getting on the podium is cool—and I’ve placed in the top five in my age group at least four times so far. Now I’m ready for my next fitness challenge and hope you’ll join me.
On May 9th, 2026 the Napa Valley is putting on the first ever Wine Marathon. This race is modeled after Marathon du Medoc, a high-spirited race through the chateaux in Bourdeaux. Just like the Medoc footrace, this run goes through exclusive vineyard trails and ends in a festive Wine Village Celebration. Come join us for the inaugural Wine Marathon. You can walk or run or even sprint the half marathon course–and then enjoy delicious food and wine at the finish line.
